SPECIALITY TRAINING

Project lead: Ru Dee Chung.

Hewage, Seamus McWhirter, Alex Gray, Gaby Bolton, Manogna Metlapalli, Suveena, Ranzil, Jason Ha, Jesse Smith, Helen Riad, Jacqueline Martin, Shubhum Joshi.


This project aims to create a free, accessible and comprehensive resource identifying
the requirements for each specialty program for medical student and junior doctors
to help with their career planning.

Specialties are currently being allocated and an abstract is under consideration 

PGY2 EDUCATION PROJECT

Members: Charissa Joy, Daniel Wilson, Rebecca Shaya, Christina Guo, Jacquie Martin, Jessica Redmond, MD Mahbubuzzaman, Merav Katz, Michael Nohrenberg.

The Education Project aims to make recommendations for a state-wide PGY2+ education program through identifying current barriers and possible solutions to enable implementation of such a program across health services in Victoria. Our aims include:

  • To describe the scope of current PGY2 education programs across health services in Victoria

  • To evaluate barriers to the implementation of PGY2 education program as identified by both medical education units and junior doctors from Victorian health services

  • To provide recommendations on innovative solutions to improve the quality and access to PGY2+ education program 

RESEARCH SUPPORT

Project lead: Jennifer Nguyen.

Members: Dana Chemali, Diane Quach, Christie Farag, Amy Richardson, Jenny Yun, Kathleen Zilbell.

 

This project aims to establish support for junior doctors to undertake research and develop a guide in regards to this. It will involve looking at existing guides and consulting senior doctors with expertise in the area. In future, the potential also exists for the establishment of a group/community where doctors can be a part of in seeking support or research opportunities.

 

A research guide is under way including support for how to approach research and a contacts list of potential supervisors.

ACCREDITATION INTERN CORE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Project lead: Latha Devaraja & Tom Garry.

Members: Rachel Cheong, Finland Tan, Jessica Wong, Rebecca Thwaites.

This project aims to facilitate the achievement of core training requirements in Medicine, Surgical and Emergency Medicine rotations for interns. This could be achieved through a self-reflective log book for interns, and creating goals oriented checklist that interns can complete with their supervisors. It will involve a literature search of current United Kingdom and New Zealand guidelines

WELFARE TAKING A BREATHER POSTER/HAS YOUR JUNIOR DOCTOR HAD LUNCH?

Project lead: Elaine Koh

This project targets the theme of wellbeing of junior doctors. There are two components to the project.  One aspect targets registrars and consultants to prompt them to consider the wellbeing of the junior doctors that are part of their team and under their leadership, and to provide them with strategies to improve junior doctor wellbeing in a practical and accessible manner. Another aspect of the project is to develop distribution of posters at hospital sites to encourage hospital staff to engage in important self-care routines.

COVER / NIGHT SUPPORT

Members: Georgia Ramsden, Sarah Marshall, Vincent Wong, Georgie Oakman, Michael Nohrenberg.

This project aims to help improve the support provided to junior doctors during cover or night shifts by identifying successful strategies already in place and advocating for their implementation across other health networks.
